Owls' Balanced Effort Claims Big Win, 70-47, Over Missouri Baptist

Box Score FULTON, Mo. - William Woods University led wire-to-wire and 10 Owls found the scoring column, a balanced effort that led to a lopsided win, Saturday, 70-47 over Missouri Baptist University in Anderson Arena.

Henry Shannon III scored a game-high 12 off the bench, 10 in the second half and seven from the foul line, while Francis Okwuosah added 11, and Gacoby Jones, Jr., scored 10. The Owls out-rebounded the Spartans 46-32 and held MBU to 29.4 percent from the floor. The Spartans, who fell to 14-8, had 11 points from Keyyaun Batchman, and 10 from Evan Palquist.

Woods improved to 13-7, and the teams are now tied for third place in the American Midwest Conference at 5-3.

Nate Schwartze had William Woods in front by double digits early, tripling three minutes in to the game to make it 12-2, and the lead grew to 18-3 four minutes later when Ty'Shon Pannell hit from outside to go in front by 15.

Although the game didn't feel in hand until late in the second half, the Spartans were not able to cut the lead to single digits, falling behind by as many as 23 midway through the second half.

Woods led 38-24 at the break, shooting 40 percent in the first 20 minutes, and on the defensive end, in the second half, William Woods limited Missouri Baptist to 25 percent, good enough to survive off-peak shooting themselves, as the Owls were 37 percent in the game. WWU did make 12 3-pointers in the game, including three from Okwuosah, and Shannon added a double-double with 12 rebounds.

The loss marked back-to-back losses in conference for the first time this season, for MBU, while the Owls, winners of three-straight, go on the road Monday, a make-up contest at Harris-Stowe State University that begins at 7:30 p.m.
