ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Jersee Wren led four Owls in double figures on Thursday night, but William Woods (12-9, 6-6 AMC) was again unable to overcome a vast disparity in free throw attempts, falling 83-72 to UHSP (13-9, 8-4 AMC). Wren scored a season-high 20 points for Woods, with
Mariah Prince also adding a season-best 15.
The Owls led early, opening up a 6-2 lead with Prince finding Wren for a triple on WWU's first possession and drawing contact and finishing the three-point play on the second.
UHSP used a 10-2 run at the 5:51 mark to claim the lead and despite closing the gap, WWU trailed 22-19 after the first.
Woods again struggled to find its shooting touch in the second quarter, barely mustering a 21.4 percent pace (3-14), as the Eutectics took a 40-27 lead to the locker room.
After keeping pace with UHSP in the third, WWU hit a hot streak in the fourth quarter, connecting at a 11-18 pace (61.1 percent) and holding UHSP to 33.3 percent (3-9). Unfortunately, the Owls couldn't keep Grace Beyer off the free throw line, as WWU was whistled for 10 fouls in the quarter to three for UHSP and Beyer went 17-18 from the charity stripe.
The Owls return to Anderson Arena on Saturday, taking on Stephens College. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m.
