ATCHISON, Kan. – William Woods University (1-7, 1-3 Heart) hit the road to take on a tough Benedictine College squad (7-1, 3-0 Heart), looking to build off their success from the previous weekend.
The Owls opened the first quarter with promise, marching down the field behind quarterback Dontae Rhodes. However, the Ravens' defense stiffened in the red zone, forcing the Owls to settle for a field goal by Justin Sharkey. Despite several solid drives, Woods was unable to add to their total, ending the quarter down 10-3.
The second quarter belonged entirely to Benedictine, as the Ravens' offense found its rhythm and the defense continued to stifle the Owls. Woods struggled to generate momentum on either side of the ball and went into halftime facing a 51-3 deficit.
Coming out of the half, the Owls aimed to claw their way back, but Benedictine's relentless attack proved too much. The Ravens continued to roll, handing Woods a 78-3 defeat.
The Owls will look to bounce back next Saturday as they travel to Olathe, Kansas, to take on MidAmerica Nazarene University. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
