Williams' Two-Goal Night Lifts Owls Past Hornets

FULTON, Mo. – William Woods Men's Soccer (4-5-3, 1-4-3 Heart) found its rhythm when it mattered most. Trailing early, the Owls surged in the second half behind two goals from junior Charlie Williams and a dramatic late header from Simone Morona to complete a 3–2 comeback over Harris-Stowe on Tuesday night.

The Hornets (4-5-2, 1-0 AMC) drew first blood in the sixth minute when Jovan Momic finished from close range after a deflection in the box. From there, Woods spent much of the first half knocking on the door but couldn't find the equalizer before the midway point.

That changed quickly after halftime. In the 67th minute, Williams stepped to the spot and buried a penalty kick into the bottom corner to level the match at 1–1. Seventeen seconds later, the standout from London, England, struck again—this time in open play—belting a shot from twenty-five yards out that rocketed over the Hornet's netminder and into the back of the net.

Harris-Stowe responded in quick succession, netting their equalizer just two minutes later.

Playing with a man advantage, the Owls pressed and found their breakthrough in the 87th minute. Kyle Kaemmerer gained possession just outside the box, sending a cross towards the back post. Timing his leap perfectly, Morona rose above the Harris-Stowe keeper and powered home a header that glanced inside the right upright.

Goalkeeper Matthew Dworak was steady in net, recording five saves and anchoring a backline that held firm in the closing moments. Dworak reeled in eight saves in the contest.

The Owls hit the road this weekend to take on Grand View University in Heart of America action. Kickoff is set for Saturday at 5 p.m. in Des Moines, Iowa.
