FULTON, Mo -The men's basketball team wrapped up its first half of the season on Friday afternoon with a road loss to College of the Ozarks (4-7), falling 85–74.
William Woods (5-9, 2-5 Heart) found its rhythm early in the contest, keeping pace with the Bobcats throughout the opening half.
Mark Onyejekwe led the scoring charge for the Owls with 12 points, and
Jacob LaBounty with 7 points. The Bobcats would find their stride and have the Owls looking at a 42-30 deficit heading into the half.
Coming out of halftime, William Woods showed fight on both ends of the floor, matching the Bobcats. Woods continued to battle defensively and cut into the deficit, but the Bobcats were able to match the efforts from the Owls.
Oshae Barquet led the Owls with 12 points, as
Brock Davis and
Tahki Chievous combined for 14 points.
Despite a strong second-half effort from the Owls, their earlier deficit proved too much for them to overcome, and they fell 85-74.
William Woods will take time to regroup and get ready for their conference matchup after the new year, on January 3rd, in Anderson Arena against Benedictine College at 4:00 p.m.
