MARSHALL, Mo.- William Woods (2-4-3, 0-3-3 Heart) hit the road to take on a new conference rival in (RV) Missouri Valley College (2-3-4, 1-2-3 Heart) in a marquee matchup on Tuesday night.  

The Owls nearly struck early when Ben Lachaize forced a tough save in the fourth minute. That tone carried through the first half, with William Woods generating eight shots and five corner kicks while goalkeeper Matt Dworak collected two saves. The breakthrough came in the 37th minute when junior midfielder Charlie Williams scored the Owls' lone goal. 

The play began at midfield when newcomer Marlon Swaby intercepted a Viking pass. After combining with Moritz Schafer on a give-and-go, Swaby delivered a cross into the box for Williams. His first attempt was blocked, but he capitalized on the rebound and buried the second shot to give Woods a 1-0 lead heading into halftime. 

The Owls stayed aggressive after the break, adding four more shots and four corners while forcing the Viking keeper into two saves. Missouri Valley was able to level the score in the 67th minute on a hockey style assist from two midfielders that found their striker for the goal.  

Woods had two more chances to move into the lead, with the most promising coming in the 87th minute off the right foot of Schafer. The Viking keeper was able to redirect the attempt, leaving both teams at an even deadlock to end the contest.

William Woods is back in the friendly confines of the North Campus Athletic Complex on Saturday to host Clarke University for William Woods' second ever homecoming games. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m.
