Owls Take Care of Business in Sweep Over Haskell

Fulton, MO – William Woods University (12-4, 5-2 Heart) faced off against Haskell Indian Nations University (6-15) for the second time of the year in the William Woods Triangular.

Haskell and William Woods started strong, trading blows and exchanging the lead throughout most of the first set. But the Owls started to pull away with the lead, thanks to a 4-kill performance from Lorenza Lagana and Ivi Marcolino getting in on the fun with 2 kills. This would drive Woods to a 25-21 win in the first set of the match.

In the second set, Woods stayed on the attack, and they got out to an 8-2 lead quickly to start the set. The Owls were powered behind a stellar performance from Ivi as she recorded 5 kills and 2 aces in this set, as well as Pamela Durazo, who recorded 3 blocks and 3 kills herself to drive the Owls to a dominant 25-13 win in the set.

At the start of the third set, Haskell was not looking to back down as they paced the Owls and even gained a 2-score lead early in the set. But that was quickly shut down as the Owls' front line quickly started racking up kills, with the help of setter Erin Tries, and began to pull away from Haskell. With the points racking up, Luciana Paiva Pereira slammed the door shut, recording 3 kills in the last 6 points to give the Owls a 25-12 set win and 3-0 match win over Haskell.

The Owls are back in action Friday as they are staying home to host Missouri Valley College in a Heart of America Conference showdown at 7 p.m. at Anderson Arena.
