LEBANON, Ill- #16 William Woods men's tennis program toppled NCAA DII McKendree University on Tuesday afternoon. The Owls, who lost to the Bearcats in the fall, dominated from first serve to bring home another impressive win.  

Woods took the doubles point with the combination of Noah Burton and Duarte Melo winning on a 6-3 scoreline against McKendree's top duo. Sealing the point for the Owls was the tandem of Jesper Seger and Thomas Geukemeijer who defeated their opponents 6-3 to take the 1-0 match advantage.  

In singles, the Owls saw their first win from their number two: Duarte Melo. The senior from Portugal won by retirement to push the match score to 2-1. The Bearcats battled back to even the match score in the number three singles, leaving a 2-2 scoreline going into the four and five matches. 

The five-match finished first with sophomore Aoi Ooka edging his opponent in a tiebreaker to give the Owls the lead. Ooka, coming off a phenomenal freshman campaign that saw him clinch the Heart of America Athletic Conference Championship last season, fell in the first set but took consecutive sets to take the match and push the Owls lead to 3-2. Woods clinched the contest on the win by Geukemeijer,  who defeated his opponent in consecutive sets. 

The nationally ranked Owls return February 15th in Des Moines, Iowa, when they take on Grand View University.
