WICHITA, Kan. - 2026 marks the first year in program history that William Woods Women's Wrestling sent two athletes to the NAIA championship in Wichita. The two Owls representatives were
Teani Medeiros-Maielua in the 138-pound bracket and
Abby Piper in the 180-pound bracket.
Medeiros-Maielua found success early in championship weekend, winning her opening bout by tech fall, 10-0. However, she would drop her next two, the first of which by tech fall, 10-0, and her final in a devastating 6-0 loss by decision.Â
Piper's first bout was as grueling as they come, lasting the entire three and resulting in an 8-2 loss by decision. Her weekend ended by fall in her next match.
The two performances on the biggest stage mark an occasion that William Woods Women's Wrestling will strive to meet as the program continues to grow moving forward.
