Owls Drop Pair to #17 Central Methodist

FAYETTE, Mo. - William Woods softball (13-14, 7-5 Heart) traveled to face nationally ranked Central Methodist University (23-10, 9-3 Heart) on Sunday afternoon. The Owls fell in both contests, dropping a shortened game one and coming up just short in a 6-5 decision in game two.

In game one, the Owls surrendered 12 runs on 12 hits in the six-inning contest. Woods plated four runs, highlighted by a two-run third inning. Lexi Lewis crossed the plate in the top of the first to score the first run of the day for either team. In the third, Corynne Miller scored on a triple from Ella Aguiar, who later came home on a wild pitch. The Owls added their final run in the sixth on a solo home run from senior outfielder Mariah Prince.

Central Methodist paired six walks with its 12 hits to produce 12 runs. Eagle pitcher Karlie Barnum was strong in the circle, striking out four over six innings to improve to 11-1 on the season.

Following the 12-4 loss in game one, William Woods pitchers Taylor Baumhoer and Hailey Robinson helped limit the Eagles in game two. The duo allowed seven hits and six runs. All scoring in the game came in a single inning for each team, with CMU posting six runs in the fourth and Woods answering with five in the fifth.

The Owls tallied seven hits in the fifth inning, along with one walk, to account for all five runs. Mariah Prince, Emmy Blevins, Myla Inman, Lexi Lewis, Ella Aguiar, Addie Rhea, and Brooklyn Spillman each recorded singles in the frame. Despite the rally, Woods could not overcome CMU's six-run fourth, falling 6-5.

William Woods returns to action Tuesday afternoon in Baldwin City, Kansas, for a Heart of America Athletic Conference matchup against Baker University.
