Owls Pitching Silence Bakers Offense For a Series Win

FULTON, Mo. – William Woods (18-15, 9-7 Heart) finished up their series with Baker University (19-15, 7-9 Heart) that was postponed from the weekend, where the Owls would steal two from the Wildcats to win the series.

Game one in the afternoon started slowly for both teams as the pitching staffs chugged along, with the Baker offense striking first with a run in the top of the second.

Jakob Koehn would let that be the only run he would allow, as he would go 5.2 innings, allowing two hits while striking out three with working around four walks.

The Owls' offense would strike in the bottom of the fourth when Evan Rainey sent a base hit into right field to score Carson Shettlesworth. Ben Brickey would steal second and force a throw to score Colby Caton from third and give the owls a 2-1 lead. An error from the Baker third basemen would allow Brickey to score from second and increase the lead for the Owls.

Owls would come back with some more offense in the bottom of the fifth as Shettlesworth sent a single into center to score both Judeo Gremillion. Caton would keep the single trend moving with a single into centerfield to score Kinsler to give them a 6-1 lead over the Wildcats.

Keith Piepmeier would take the ball out of the pen and continue the dominance over the Baker offense, allowing only one hit over 1.1 innings of work only allowing one hit with a strikeout and secure a 7-1 victory for the Owls in game one.

Game two was a quick one as the Owls continued their dominance on the mound, silencing the Baker offense and only allowing one run for the third time this series.

Brayden Groseclose would throw a complete game, only allowing five hits with six strikeouts and one run. His offense would pick him up late in the game to give him the momentum to finish the game.

A leadoff triple from Kaden Kinsler would set the Owls up in a prime position to score with Shettlesworth cashing in right away with a single into right field to tie the ball game up at one a piece. With the bases loaded, Aidan Gaither would ground out to the second baseman but would score Brickey in the process to give the Owls a 2-1 lead.

With the lead and momentum on their side, Baker would get the tying run on base in the top of the seventh, would be cut down by Grant O'Haver behind the plate, throwing out his third runner on the day, and securing the Owls with a series win.

The Owls look to keep their momentum going on a quick turnaround as they host Central Methodist University on Saturday to start their crucial series and host senior day and alumni weekend.
