MOBILE, Ala.- William Woods University men's tennis ended their season in a stellar match with Saint Thomas University (Fla.) at the Mobile Tennis Center in the first round of the NAIA Men's Tennis National Championship Tournament. The Owls lost 4-3 in the second ever meeting between the two schools, and the first in postseason play.
Woods snagged an early lead with a doubles point clinch from the #1 and #3 pairings. At the top spot, the ITA #10 Ranked Duo of Noah Burton and Duarte Melo took a 7-5 win against their opponent to give the Owls a cushion for the #2 and #3 matchups. After falling in #2 doubles, the Owls' #3 coupling of Bruno Matta and Jesper Seger sealed the point for WWU by a 6-4 score.
In singles play, Woods saw to huge wins from #2 Cole Horton and #4 Tomas Guadagni, who both bested their opponents in straight sets to give WWU three match points. However, the rest of the Owls lineup was unable to muster any momentum as !3, #3, #5, and #6 all fell in straight sets to their opponents.
