FULTON, Mo. — William Woods men's soccer (2-1) earned its second consecutive win with a 4-0 dismantling of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods (0-2-1). The Owls leveraged an early goal into a four-goal first half and a win in front of their home crowd.
As most fans were just settling into their seats for the Saturday matinee, Moritz Schafer found The Woods' first goal of the match just 36 seconds after the opening whistle. The German midfielder received a pass from Sem Schoenmakers inside the box and flicked it over the head of the Pomeroy keeper for his second goal of the young season.
William Woods again found the back of the net around the nine-minute mark. Miles Andrews slotted a goal off the SMWC keeper and into the back of the net. Team captain Charlie Williams assisted on the goal, playing the ball forward past the Pomeroy backline and into the very capable feet of Andrews.
Italian midfielder Francesco Dibra was the next Owl to find the back of the net. Dibra leveled a shot through the posts on the far side off a cross-field pass from Andrews. This marked Woods' third goal of the contest and Dibra's second of the season.
The Woods notched one more goal before the half when Travis Luhning pocketed a shot in the 40th minute. The forward from St. Louis fielded a pass from the Owls' backline and beat two defenders on his way to his first goal of the 2026 season. Senior Rodrigo Franco was credited with the assist.
Neither team was able to score in the second half behind solid keeper play. For Woods, Martin Angulo (first half) and Pedro Kassem Silva (second half) combined for the shutout.
Woods returns on September 12 when it travels to Mount Mercy for its first Heart of America Athletic Conference contest. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m.
