FULTON, Mo. — William Woods University volleyball battled Central Methodist University throughout the first two sets Saturday at Anderson Arena, but the Owls came up just short in both before falling 3-0. The Eagles took the three sets 25-23, 25-23, 25-11.
William Woods found itself down 16-10 in the opening set before mounting a comeback. The Owls pulled even at 21-21 and took a 22-21 lead, but Central Methodist scored the final four points to take the set 25-23.
The second set was just as competitive, featuring 12 ties and six lead changes. William Woods again held a late advantage, taking a 21-20 lead. Central Methodist responded by tying the set at 21-21, and after the teams traded points, the Eagles took a 24-23 lead and finished off another 25-23 set.
Central Methodist carried that momentum into the third set, opening an 11-2 lead. The Eagles continued to build their advantage and went on to take the set 25-11.
Roberta Carlos de Silva led the Owls with eight kills, while Lennon Adams added six. Ryleigh Sander recorded 18 assists and 14 digs, and Daniela Castro finished with a team-high 13 digs.
William Woods finished the match with 25 kills, 22 assists and 59 digs. Central Methodist recorded 39 kills, 35 assists and 63 digs.
Kyndra Collier and Juliana Amaral each recorded 10 kills for Central Methodist. Collier added four total blocks, while Amaral finished with 13 digs.
The loss drops William Woods to 0-3 overall and 0-2 in conference play. Central Methodist improves to 7-6 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
The Owls are back in Anderson Arena on Tuesday, September 15th, to take on Missouri Baptist University. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
