DES MOINES, Iowa — Owls volleyball (0-6, 0-5 Heart) fell to Grand View University (9-6, 4-1 Heart) in three consecutive sets in their Heart of America Athletic Conference matchup.
Offense was hard to come by for the Owls, who scored more than 20 points in just one set. The opening set saw Woods remain competitive before the Vikings pulled away around the 17-point mark.
Set two was the closest of the match, with Woods falling 25-22. The Owls trailed by six points late before Roberta Carlos da Silva and Lennon Adams each recorded kills to cut the deficit to two. However, the Vikings found an open area just beyond the Woods defensive front to close out the set.
William Woods eventually dropped the third set by 10 points to seal the match for Grand View. Carlos da Silva led the Owls with 16 kills, while Nora Loeffler and Isabella Ruether followed with six and five kills, respectively. Ryleigh Sander and Ashley Contreras combined for 21 assists, while Loeffler and Daniela Castro led the defensive effort with seven digs apiece.
The Owls hit the road next week, beginning with a midweek matchup against Stephens College before traveling to Canton to take on Culver-Stockton College on Friday night. Woods will close out its road trip against new Heart rival Saint Ambrose University on Saturday afternoon.
