Box Score CANTON, Mo. — Owls volleyball (2-6, 1-5 Heart) earned its first Heart of America Athletic Conference victory of the season Friday night, defeating Culver-Stockton College (2-13, 0-6 Heart) in five sets, 24-26, 25-21, 25-21, 15-25, 15-11.
William Woods opened the match by battling through a tight first set before Culver-Stockton edged the Owls 26-24. William Woods responded by taking the next two sets, winning both by a 25-21 score to take a 2-1 lead in the match.
Culver-Stockton forced a fifth set with a 25-15 victory in the fourth, sending the match to a decisive final frame.
The Owls took control early in the fifth set, building an 8-3 advantage. Culver-Stockton responded to cut the deficit to 9-8 before William Woods pushed back to take an 11-9 lead. The Wildcats tied the set at 11-11, but the Owls scored the final four points to secure the 15-11 victory and their first Heart win of the season.
Roberta Carlos da Silva led the Owls with a career-high 20 kills and added 11 digs. Lorenza Lagana finished with 11 kills, while Lennon Adams recorded six kills and a team-high seven blocks, the most in single game in her career. Ryleigh Sander added 28 assists and eight digs.
The Owls return to action Saturday at 11 a.m. when they travel to Davenport, Iowa, to face Saint Ambrose University.
