Craig McAndrews joined the Owls' athletic staff in fall of 2006 as Assistant Baseball Coach. McAndrews’ primary duties are working with catchers and outfielders, and serving as Recruiting Coordinator. During his tenure, William Woods has had their best recruiting classes in school history. WWU’s catchers have been the conference Gold Glove recipient in six of the past seven seasons.
Coach McAndrews has been involved in all facets of the baseball program. Highlights include a cumulative team grade point average above 3.0, graduation and retention rates in the 90th percentile, the best overall and conference records in school history, appearing in six of the past seven conference championship games, winning the conference tournament championship, winning two games in the NAIA National Tournament, achieving the first national top 25 ranking, and having the first player in school history professionally drafted by Major League Baseball.
The past three summers McAndrews has served as Assistant Head Coach for the Sedalia Bombers in the MINK League. McAndrews played a major role in recruiting players for the prestigious wood bat collegiate summer league. His duties also included planning daily practice and game operations, coordinating travel, and serving as third base coach. The Bombers appeared in the league championship game the past two seasons, and have had three consecutive winning seasons.
McAndrews played at Harris-Stowe State University for two years (2005-2006). He served as the team’s closer in which he amassed over 100 innings, an 8-4 record, and 11 saves. He pitched for Owls head coach Darren Munns during the 2005 season while serving as team captain. The 2005 Hornets made their first trip to the AMC post-season tournament in school history, and broke a school record for wins with 34. Before pitching at Harris-Stowe State University, McAndrews spent two seasons at Southwestern Community College in Creston, Iowa. He caught and pitched as a freshman and served as the designated hitter when he wasn't on the hill as a sophomore.
McAndrews is a native of Omaha, Neb., and a Omaha South High School product. In addition to his duties as assistant coach, he serves as Head of Athletic Field Maintenance. McAndrews also serves as the color commentator and analyst, alongside Munns, for WWU's basketball broadcasts.
He is a 2007 graduate of William Woods University, earning a bachelor's degree in sports management. He received his master's degree in athletic/activities administration from William Woods in the fall of 2009.
