Charlie Holloway, who brings over 20 years of coaching experience in flag and tackle football, took over as the William Woods University flag football coach on March 26, 2025.
Last fall, Holloway served as a varsity football assistant coach for Troy Buchanan High School in Troy. In this role, Holloway mentored and developed players, focused on skill enhancement and strategic gameplay, evaluated team performance, implemented individualized training programs and assisted in game preparation, including opponent analysis and in-game adjustments.
"I am excited about the opportunity to help build and develop a growing program," Holloway said. "As a startup program in just its first year, I understand the importance of laying a strong foundation for long-term success. My experience includes working with athletes at various levels, emphasizing skill development, team culture and competitive excellence. Additionally, as an advisory board member with USA Football - the governing body of American football in the United States and a recognized sports organization of the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee - I stay at the forefront of coaching education, player safety and best practices in the sport."
"From the moment Charlie stepped on campus, it was obvious to the staff, administration and myself that he was the perfect fit for the job," William Woods Interim Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Casey Wieder said. "He has spent most of his career dedicating his time to the growth of flag football, specifically at the youth level in the state of Missouri. As one of two programs in the state, it was important for us to find someone who is driven to help the sport grow at the youth, high school and college levels."
Before joining Troy Buchanan's coaching staff, Holloway was the head football coach at Troy South Middle School from 2018-24. He led and managed the football program, fostering a disciplined and motivated team culture. Additionally, Holloway developed and executed game strategies, practice plans and training regimens, evaluated players, designed skill and development programs, monitored academic performance and collaborated with staff and administration to support student-athlete success.
Holloway's certifications and trainings include being MSHSAA tackle certified, USA football tackle and flag certification and USA football league leaders and education advisory board member.
Holloway graduated from Western Governors University in Millcreek, Utah, with a bachelor's degree in mathematics.
In their inaugural 2025 campaign, the Owls went 15-8 overall and 6-3 in the KCAC, reached the KCAC Championship semifinals, finished as the NAIA Flag Finals B Bracket runner-up and had six All-KCAC selections (one second-team and five honorable mention).
