Bob Jones

Bob Jones became William Woods University's first strength and conditioning coach on July 1, 2001.

Coach Jones, the 2019 National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) College Strength and Conditioning Coach of the Year, works closely with student-athletes in each of the William Woods' sports programs. Jones designs and implements preseason, in-season, and postseason, sports-specific and individual-specific training programs for WWU student-athletes. After just one year with WWU, the injuries were cut in half which increased the performance and competitiveness of the Owls. 

He has worked with two national champions, four runners-ups, and over 130 All-Americans.

Coach Jones became a member of the Council on Accreditation of Strength and Conditioning Education (CASCE) since June 2020. CASCE made history as they accredited six programs in the country which are the first programs that have been accredited for Strength and Conditioning.
 
Coach Jones serves as an Adjunct Instructor in the Exercise Science Department at WWU since 2003. His other duties involve managing the Weider Fitness Center and recreation program for WWU.
 
On January 21, 2018, Jones was one of four people inducted into the WWU Athletic Hall of Fame.
 
Coach Jones served as the NSCA’s Missouri State Director on two separate occasions (1992-94 and 2008-10). His work with the NSCA began in 1988 by assisting with clinics. Coach Jones earned his CSCS on June 24, 1989.  He has spoken at many clinics and is recognized as one of leading professionals in the field. 
 
In February of 2015, he became involved as an instructor for the NSCA-CSCS Exam Prep Live Clinic program. Jones received the NSCA’s RSCC*E distinction in January of 2016, and in January of 2017, he become qualified to conduct the Foundations of Coaching Lifts. 
 
He has also been involved with Dr. Brian Mann on research projects in 2017 and 2018.

Prior to joining the William Woods athletic staff, Jones was a member of the strength and conditioning staff at the University of Missouri, where he began his career in 1988.

While at Mizzou, Jones served in several different roles, beginning as a graduate assistant and promoted to Assistant Strength Coach in 1990, Jones worked with the Tigers' swimming and diving, wrestling, tennis, soccer, volleyball, softball, football and basketball teams. In 1999, Coach Jones became the Associate Strength Coach for men’s and women's basketball. Jones worked with seven conference championship teams and numerous NCAA Tournament teams. One of his highlights while at MU was working with the 1993-94 men's basketball team that won the Big 8 Championship with a perfect 14-0 record and was a #1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. The '93-94 team was considered the strongest team in the nation.

Jones received his undergraduate degree from Central Methodist College where he majored in physical education and health. While at Central Methodist, Jones’ passion for strength and conditioning became a career goal. He developed and implemented programs for himself and some of his friends during those years.

In 1991, Jones received his masters' degree at the University of Missouri in Human Performance.
