(FULTON, Mo, Oct. 12)--The William Woods University women's soccer team played Central Methodist University to a 1-1 double-overtime tie on Firley Field Tuesday night. The Owls are now 5-5-2 on the season.
The teams went to halftime scoreless. William Woods recorded four shots in the opening half. Central Methodist also recorded four shots in the first 45 minutes of play.
CMU took a 1-0 lead in the 69th minute of play. The Eagles scored on a goal from Kayla Leeser. She scored on an assist from Jordyn Jennings.
The Owls struck late to tie the match at one. Junior
Melissa Roewe (O'Fallon, Ill.) scored on an assist from freshman
Ashley McCaffrey (Lake St. Louis, Mo.). Roewe had two shots in the match. She put both shots on goal. Roewe now has two goals on the year. McCaffrey notched her second assist of the season.
The action was fast and furious in both overtime periods. CMU recorded eight shots, WWU had seven shots in both periods. Neither team could find the match-winning shot.
Sophomore
Anna Hatfield (Desoto, Ill.) had a match-high seven saves in the tie. Hatfield played all 120 minutes of the match.
Junior
Kelsey Sanders (Jefferson City, Mo.) had a match-high six shots in the tie. Junior
Kristen Pelley (St. Peters, Mo.) added four shots for the Owls.
CMU (3-8-2) had 21 shots on the evening. The Eagles put eight shots on goal. William Woods recorded 18 shots on the night. The Owls put seven shots on goal.
William Woods will return to action on October 16. The Owls will play American Midwest Conference rival McKendree University at 5 pm in Lebanon, Ill.
