Owls Fall in Double OT

Schildz Scores In Owls Win
(CANTON, Mo., Oct. 17)-- The William Woods University women's soccer team lost in double-overtime at Culver-Stockton College on Sunday afternoon. With the loss, the Owls fall to 5-7-2 on the season. It was the third double-ovetime match for the Owls this season. Three of the last six matches for WWU has gone to double-overtime. In those matches, WWU is 0-1-2.

William Woods jumped on the scoreboard early. Freshman Kristen Schildz (St. Louis, Mo.) scored off an assist from junior Melissa Roewe (O'Fallon, Ill.) in the 13th minute. It was the third goal of the season for Schildz. Roewe now has two assists on the year.

C-SC (7-5-1) answered in the 17th minute with a goal from Rachel Sutterer. Neither team would score during the next 85 minutes of play.

After a scoreless first overtime period, the Wildcats scored the winner in the 103 minute on a goal from Jordan Sergi.

Culver-Stockton recorded 19 shots on the match. The Wildcats put nine shots on goal. William Woods had 14 shots on the afternoon. The Owls placed eight shots on goal.

Sophomore Anna Hatfield (Desoto, Ill.) had a match-high seven saves for William Woods in the loss.

Senior Katie Klingemann (St. Louis, Mo.) led the Owls with two shots. Both of her shots were on goal. Roewe and freshman Ashley McCaffrey (Lake St. Louis, Mo.) also had two shots in the WWU defeat.

William Woods will play its third match in three days on Monday, October 18. The Owls will travel to American Midwest Conference rival Harris-Stowe State University for a 2 pm match.
