William Woods Wins on Senior Day

Sanders Records Two Goals in Win
(FULTON, Mo, Oct. 9)--The William Woods University women's soccer team defeated American Midwest Conference rival Harris-Stowe State University on Saturday afternoon. The Owls defeated the Hornets 6-1 on Senior Day.

The WWU scoring started early in the opening half. Junior Kelsey Sanders (Jefferson City, Mo.) scored off an assist from senior Katie Klingemann (St. Louis, Mo.) in the 10th minute to give the Owls a 1-0 lead. Sanders scored again in the 14th minute to take the lead to 2-0.

Sanders returned the favor to Klingemann in the 28th minute. Klingemann scored to give the Owls a 3-0 lead.

The Owls opened the second half with a goal from junior Anne Weaver (St. Charles, Mo.) in the 53rd minute. She scored off an assist from freshman Ashley McCaffrey (Lake St. Louis, Mo.). Weaver was in on an assist in the 63rd minute. She led junior Kristen Pelley (St. Peters, Mo.) who scored to give the Owls a 4-0 lead.

HSSU (0-9, 0-4) scored in the 65th minute to cut the lead to three. The Owls answered with a goal from sophomore Dusty Maciejewski (Washington, Mo.) in the 71st minute for the final goal of the match.

HSSU had two shots on the afternoon. WWU had 25 shots, 12 of which were on goal. Freshman Kelly Abernathy (St. Charles, Mo.) had one save in the William Woods victory.

William Woods improves to 5-5-1 on the season and 2-3-1 in the AMC. They return to action on October 12. The Owls host Central Methodist University at 7 pm on Firley Field.
