The William Woods University women's soccer team dropped a road match today at Central Methodist University. The Eagles defeated the Owls 2-1 in Fayette, Mo.
CMU (7-0) scored twice in the opening half. Shawn Beard scored in the 25
th and 28
th minute to give CMU the first half advantage.
Kelsey Sanders (Jefferson City, Mo.) cut the deficit in half in the 66
th minute. Sanders scored off an assist from
Stephanie Kirvan (Sunrise, Mo.). It was the fourth goal of the season for Sanders. Kirvan recorded her first assist of the year.
The Owls shutout CMU in the second half and continued to pressure the Eagles, but could not find the equalizer.
CMU took 24 shots on the evening. The Eagles placed nine shots on goal. WWU (2-3-1) took seven shots on the night. The Owls put three shots on goal.
Anna Hatfield (Desoto, Ill.) tallied seven saves in goal for William Woods. Hatfield now has 19 saves for the season.
WWU returns to action Saturday. The Owls host American Midwest Conference foe Harris-Stowe State University. Kick-off is scheduled for 4 pm on Firley Field.
