The William Woods University women's soccer team defeated Harris-Stowe State University Saturday afternoon on Firley Field. The Owls won the American Midwest Conference match 6-0. WWU improves to 3-3-1 on the season and 2-0 in the AMC. Harris-Stowe falls to 0-6-1 on the year and 0-2 in league play.
William Woods tallied four first half goals in the AMC romp.
Stephanie Kirvan (Sunrise Beach, Mo.) started the scoring in the 17th minute. She scored off an assist from
Jamie Bond (Springfield, Mo.).
Kelsey Sanders (Jefferson City, Mo.) and
Caty Newbold (Jefferson City, Mo.) found the back of the net for the Owls in the 23rd and 26th minute. Kirvan capped the first half scoring in the 34th minute. The two goals by Kirvan were her first two of the season.
Sanders added her second goal of the match, and sixth of the season, in the 51st minute of play. Sanders scored off an assist from
Anna Hatfield (DeSoto, Ill.).
Brittany Graue (St. Louis, Mo.) ended the scoring in the 53rd minute. Graue scored off another assist from Bond.
WWU took 23 shots for the match. The Owls placed 10 shots on goal. Harris-Stowe managed only two shots on the night. The Hornets put one shot on goal.
Kelly Abernathy (St. Charles, Mo.) earned the shut-out in goal for the Owls. She had one save on the night.
The Owls return to action September 20. WWU will travel to Hannibal-LaGrange University for another AMC match-up. Kick-off is scheduled for 4 pm in Hannibal, Mo.
