AMC Lead Up For Grabs Tonight

The William Woods University women's soccer team returns to action tonight against Park University.  The American Midwest Conference match begins at 6 pm on Firley Field.  Both teams enter the match tied for first place in the AMC.  William Woods enters tonight's match 4-3-1 on the season and 3-0 in the AMC.

The Owls are coming off a 2-0 victory at AMC rival Hannibal-LaGrange University September 20.  Stephanie Kirvan (Sunrise Beach, Mo.) put the Owls on the board in the 26th minute.  Kirvan scored off an assist from Jamie Bond (Springfield, Mo.) and Brittany Graue (St. Louis, Mo.) to give the Owls the only lead they would need.  Kirvan now has three goals in the last two matches.

Graue found the back of the net in the 36th minute for William Woods.  Graue scored off an assist from J. Mariah Wheaton (Independence, Mo.) and Bond.  Graue now has three goals on the season.

Kelly Abernathy (St. Charles, Mo.) earned the shutout in goal for William Woods.  She recorded two saves in the win.  The Owls now have four shutouts this season.

WWU fired 22 shots on the night.  The Owls put seven shots on goal.  HL-G recorded seven shots on the night. 
 
Kirvan was named this week's AMC Offensive Player of the Week.  Abernathy was named this week's AMC Defensive Player of the Week.  It's the third WWU player to earn AMC Player of the Week honors this season.
 
Park enters the match 5-3 on the season and 3-0 in league play.  The Pirates are coming off a 3-0 win over Hannibal-LaGrange on September 24.
 
The Owls and Pirates met twice last season.  Park defeated the Owls 2-0 in Fulton, Mo., and 3-0 in Parkville, Mo.  Park leads the all-time series between the two schools 22-4.  The last victory for the Owls came in 2009.  The Owls defeated the Pirates 1-0 in Parkville, Mo.
 
The Owls return to action October 4.  WWU will host AMC rival Hannibal-LaGrange at 5 pm on Firley Field.
