Owls Sweep Weekend

The William Woods University women's soccer team won its second consecutive match Saturday afternoon on Firley Field. The Owls topped visiting University of the Ozarks 2-0. WWU improves to 2-1 on the season.
 
The Owls scored both goals in the opening half of play. Kristen Pelley (St. Peters, Mo.) put the Owls ahead in the 13th minute of play. She scored the unassisted goal to give the Owls the only goal they would need.
 
Ashley McCaffrey (Lake St. Louis, Mo.) added another goal for the Owls in the 38th minute. McCaffrey scored off an assist from Caty Newbold (Jefferson City, Mo.).
 
William Woods dominated the entire match. They recorded 15 shots in the first half and 18 in the second half. University of the Ozarks (1-1) managed only one shot in the match. It came in the first half.
 
Anna Hatfield (Desoto, Ill.) recorded one save in goal for the Owls. She played 61 of the 90 minutes at the goalkeeper position. Kelly Abernathy (St. Charles, Mo.) played the final 28 minutes in goal for the Owls. She did not see a shot on goal.
 
The Owls swept both matches this weekend. WWU defeated AMC newcomer Benedictine University-Springfield 5-0 Friday night.
 
William Woods will return to action on September 8. The Owls host Culver-Stockton College at 7 pm on Firley Field.
