Kirvan, German Each Score Two As Owls Blank Bulldogs 7-0

Brittainy German scored two goals and added an assist as WWU blanked Benedictine University at Springfield.
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -- Stephanie Kirvan (Sunrise Beach, Mo.) and Brittainy German (St. Charles, Mo.) each scored twice as the William Woods University women's soccer team rolled to a 7-0 win over American Midwest Conference newcomers Benedictine University at Springfield on Tuesday night.

The Owls opened the scoring in the 13th minute, converting a free kick opportunity. Kirvan finished off the opportunity created by Amy Faus (Waterloo, Ill.) and Jordan McNamara (Blue Springs, Mo.).

A flurry of goals around the half-hour mark put the game out of reach, as Kirvan notched her second of the night in the 34th minute off an assit from German, with German adding one of her own just under 100 seconds later. Ashley Deckard (Granite City, Ill.) earned the assist on German's 36th minute strike, but the sophomore transfer from Saint Charles Community College did all the work in the 39th minute for her second of the night.

After taking a 4-0 lead into halftime, William Woods wasted no time adding to their lead in the second half. Jamie Palermo (Santa Fe, N.M.) struck with just 34 seconds gone in the period, picking up her fourth career goal.

Deckard would add another assist on the night, this time finding Kaitlyn Wideman (Russellville, Mo.) in the 68th minute, with the redshirt freshman tallying her first career goal.

The Owls would add a seventh in the 81st minute, as Ashley McCaffrey (Lake St. Louis, Mo.) picked up her first collegiate point with an assist to Faus.

Kelly Abernathy (St. Charles, Mo.) was hardly tested as she earned her first shutout of the year. The junior keeper was only called upon to make two saves over the 90 minutes of action. WWU posted a 17-2 edge in shots on goal, recording a 27-10 overall edge in shots.

William Woods returns home for a brief two-game homestand, hosting Ottawa University on Saturday in a non-conference match. Kickoff for the game, presented by Joe Machens Dealerships, is set for 2 p.m. at Firley Field.
