COLUMBIA, Mo. -- For the second consecutive day the William Woods University women's soccer team defeated an American Midwest Conference opponent 9-0, this time coming against Stephens College, as the Owls improve to 4-1-1 in league play.
William Woods (7-6-1, 4-1-1 AMC) put on a completely dominate display on Sunday afternoon, as they had three players score two goals. The Owls complied 42 shots on the afternoon, while holding Stephens College (0-12-0, 0-5-0 AMC) to just one shot.
Junior college transfer Rachel Meyer got the team on the board in the 11th minute by placing the ball in the upper corner of the goal to give the Owls an early 1-0 lead. Meyer added another goal in the 53rd minute to give her back-to-back multi-goal games. The Granite City, Ill., native also handed out two assists, giving her a career-high six points in one game.
Jamie Palermo followed up her second career hat trick game with a goal in the 17th minute. The 2012 All-AMC First-Team selection has scored six goals in just nine games this season, with four coming this weekend.
It was a spectacular homecoming for Columbia, Mo., native Katie Shikles, as the senior recorded her first career multi-goal game. Shikles gave the Owls a 4-0 lead in the 26th minute with a 25-yard strike, and added another score in the 56th minute to give her a career-best three goals this season.
William Woods' leading goal scorer, Jordan McNamara, got into the action in the 49th minute with her 10th goal of the year. The forward added another point to the scoreboard in the 66th minute to extend her team lead in goals to 11. McNamara also handed out two assists on the afternoon, pushing her season total to a team-high nine.
A pair of Owls also collected their first goal of the season on Sunday, as junior Brittainy German scored in the 22nd minute and sophomore Annie Graber extended the WWU lead to 5-0 going into the break with her goal in the 40th minute.
William Woods will play its third game in four days as they host AMC newcomer Freed-Hardeman University on Tuesday afternoon. The Lady Lions are 3-7-1 on the year and 2-3-1 in conference play.
