Women's Soccer Has Three-Game Winning Streak Come To An End On Saturday

FULTON, Mo. -- The William Woods University women's soccer team ended its 2013 regular season home schedule with a 1-0 loss to American Midwest Conference foe Lyon College on Saturday afternoon.

William Woods (8-7-1, 5-2-1 AMC) allowed a Lyon College (9-5-1, 4-4-0 AMC) goal in the 34th minute, and the Scots defense proved to be tough enough to make it stand, as they were able to keep the Owls off the scoreboard for the entire afternoon to seal the 1-0 victory.

The loss snaps the Owls (8-7-1, 5-2-1 AMC) three-game winning streak, as they fall into a fourth place tie with Hannibal-LaGrange University. The win pulls Lyon College (9-5-1, 4-4-0 AMC) within a game and a half of William Woods and Hannibal-LaGrange with two conference games remaining for all three squads.

Hannah Osmon broke the scoreless game in the 34th minute, as she took a Monica Ayala pass and blasted a shot past the Owls goalkeeper to give Lyon College the 1-0 advantage.

William Woods had a pair of opportunities to the tie the game late, as they posted two shots on goal in the matches' final 25 minutes, but came up short falling to the Scots 1-0.

The Owls outshot Lyon College 11-10 in this evenly played match. Junior Rachel Meyer led the team in shots with three, while she was able to put one on the mark in the 60th minute, but was saved by the Scot goalkeeper.

WWU will now take to the road for an important two-game AMC road trip, as they take on Park University on Wednesday before closing out the regular season at Missouri Baptist University next Saturday. The start times for both games is scheduled for 5 p.m.
