Box Score FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University women's soccer team scored a game-tying goal in the 75th minute to force a 2-2 tie to American Midwest Conference leader Hannibal-LaGrange on Wednesday night.
With William Woods (4-5-1, 1-0-1 AMC) down by a goal,
Jenna Vogt sent a pass that split a pair of Hannibal-LaGrange (4-5-2, 3-0-2 AMC) defenders to find a sprinting
Jordan McNamara, who put a shot past a diving goalkeeper, giving the Owls the 2-2 tie.
It was the first tie of the season for the Owls and the first since Sept. 17, 2012 when WWU tied at Culver-Stockton 1-1.
The Lady Trojans got on the board in the game's first five minutes, as
Brittany Griffin was able to deflect a Hannibal-LaGrange shot, but the deflection fell on the foot of Sarah Hammock and poked in her fourth goal of the year. Â
William Woods was able to score the equalizer in the 28th minute, as
Ashley Deckard sent a free kick into the six-yard box and placed it perfectly on
Rachel Meyer's head, giving the junior her fourth goal of the season.
Hammock struck again in the 33rd minute with her second goal of the match off a corner kick from Juliana Lopes Roberto. It was the fifth goal of the year for Hammock, and her first multiple goal game of the season. The forward has now scored five goals in her last four games.
The goal gave Hannibal-LaGrange a 2-1 lead going into the half, and the score stayed that way until the 75th minute, when McNamara scored her team-high sixth goal on the season.
Brittany Griffin gave the Owls a solid performance in the goal, as the freshman saved eight shots on the night and did not allow a goal in both overtimes to preserve the tie.
William Woods will now take to the road, as they travel to AMC foe Harris-Stowe State University on Saturday afternoon. Kickoff for the game is set for 1 p.m.
