Women's Soccer Takes To The Road To Face Harris-Stowe

McNamara's sixth goal of the year helped the Owls to a 2-2 tie on Wednesday.

ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- The William Woods University women's soccer team will take to the road in search of its second American Midwest Conference victory on Saturday afternoon, as they entertain Harris-Stowe State University. Kickoff for the game is set for 1 p.m.

William Woods (4-5-1, 1-0-1 AMC) is coming off a 2-2 home tie against Hannibal-LaGrange University, who currently is a half game out of first place, on Wednesday night. The Owls were able to pick up the draw thanks to a Jordan McNamara goal in the 75th minute. It was her team-leading sixth goal on the year and helped the Owls to its first conference tie since the 2010 season.

After dropping back-to-back games against Missouri Valley College and Central Methodist University, WWU has been able to recover and recorded a pair of non-losing games since, defeating AMC foe Benedictine University at Springfield and tying the Lady Trojans in the process.

Harris-Stowe (1-6-0, 1-3-0 AMC) is riding a two-game losing streak, after collecting its first win of the year against Stephens College. That victory snapped a four-game skid to start the season.

William Woods will go into Saturday's matchup looking for its second clean sheet of the season, as the Lady Hornets have had difficulty scoring all year. HSSU has been shut out in all but two games this season, those coming in the 3-1 season-opening loss to Brescia University and the 5-2 victory over Stephens.

Briana Garza has been responsible for three of the five team goals this season, as she collected the lone goal against Brescia and posted a pair of goals against the Stars.

On the defensive side of the field the Lady Hornets have struggled. Harris-Stowe has giving up 40 goals in its seven games, for an average of 5.7 goals per match.  HSSU has giving up 15 goals in their recent two-game skid, as they were defeated 8-0 to Oakland City and followed that up with a 7-0 loss to AMC foe Missouri Baptist University.

The Owls defeated Harris-Stowe 8-0 last season in Fulton, and hold a 25-1-0 advantage in the all-time series. In fact, the Owls have shut out the Lady Hornets in back-to-back games, outscoring them 14-0 in the process.
