Women's Soccer Picks Up Second Shutout On The Year By Defeating Harris-Stowe 8-0

McCaffrey scored her second career goal against Harris-Stowe on Saturday.
Box Score ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- The William Woods University women's soccer team was able to pick up its second shutout victory this season, as they defeated Harris-Stowe State University 8-0 in a Saturday afternoon American Midwest Conference matchup.

William Woods (5-5-1, 2-0-1 AMC) was able to keep Harris-Stowe (1-7-0, 1-4-0 AMC) off the score board for entire the afternoon, as a trio of goals in the game's first 10 minutes sparked WWU to the runaway victory.

The Owls set the tone early with a Brooke Hendrix goal in the sixth minute. It was the second career goal for the freshman and her second in three games for the Owls.

Hendrix would set up a Jordan McNamara goal a minute later to give William Woods the 2-0 just seven minutes into the contest. It was McNamara's seventh goal of the season, and her third goal scored in the last four games.

Senior Jessica Varner's second score of the season gave the Owls their third goal in the game's first 10 minutes. It was the first goal for the midfielder since Aug. 31, when she helped sparked WWU to a come-from-behind win against Spring Hill College.

Ashley McCaffrey and Rochelle Garcia scored their first goals of the season to close out the five-goal first half for the Owls. It was the first career goal for Garcia, while it was the second straight year that the senior McCaffrey has scored against the Lady Hornets.

Just like the first half, William Woods wasted little time in scoring its first goal of the final frame, as Rachel Meyer collected her fifth goal on the year in the 46th minute, giving her team the 6-0 lead.

WWU closed out the afternoon with a goal from Desiree Strief and Ashley Deckard to give the Owls the 8-0 win. It was the second goal of the season for Strief, while Deckard has now collected three goals on the year, surpassing her 2012 total.

The Owls will return to action on Tuesday afternoon as they take on AMC foe Columbia College. Kickoff for the game is set for 4:30 p.m.
