Women's Soccer Suffers First AMC Loss As They Fall To Columbia College 3-0

Box Score COLUMBIA, Mo. -- The William Woods University women's soccer team was shut out for the first time in four games, as they fall 3-0 to American Midwest Conference foe Columbia College on Tuesday afternoon.

William Woods (5-6-1, 2-1-1 AMC) allowed a goal in the games first eight minutes to give Columbia College (9-2-1, 6-1-0 AMC) the early 1-0 lead. The Cougars were able to add a pair of goals in the second half to secure the 3-0 victory.

MacKenzie Knepper scored her 13th goal of the year in the eighth minute, as she took a pass from Tori Magaletta and put a shot past Owls goalkeeper Brittany Griffin to give the Cougars the 1-0 lead. It was the sixth goal in three games for Knepper.

The Owls defense was able to hold Columbia College scoreless for the remainder of the half, but it didn't come easy, as the Cougars collected 12 first half shots to just two for William Woods.

WWU continued to hold the Cougars just to one goal until the 67th minute when Rylee Bruhn scored her third goal of the year to push the Columbia lead to 2-0.

The Cougars were able to poke another goal into the net late in the second half, as Kelly Ross' goal gave Columbia College a 3-0 victory.

After being outshot by 10 in the first half, William Woods was more aggressive in the final frame as they outshot Columbia College 8-7 in the second stanza. Senior Jessica Varner led the team in shots with three, while both of Jordan McNamara's shots were put on goal to lead the Owls in that category for the night.

The Owls will return to action on Saturday morning as they face-off with AMC debutant Williams Baptist College. Saturday will also be Senior Day for the women's soccer team. William Woods will honor their seniors prior to the game. Kickoff is scheduled for 11 a.m.
