Box Score FULTON, Mo.—The William Woods men's soccer team earned its second American Midwest Conference victory on the year, as the team defeated Benedictine University at Springfield 6-2. Â
The six goals on the season are a season high for the Owls (5-4; 2-0 AMC), eclipsing the previous mark of four goals which they have done three times this season in front of the home crowd.
Joao Paulo Parra got the scoring started in the 9
th minute, beating freshman Bulldog goalie Sebastian Pino for the early 1-0 lead.
Then, just .14 seconds later Parra scored his second goal of the game and fifth on the season on a pass from
Marcelo Carreiro to make it 2-0 WWU.
Carreiro, who already contributed two assists in the game, added his sixth goal on the season on in the 20
th minute, to make it 3-0. The crisp passing in the half continued for the Owls, as
Paulo Conelian played a ball up near the right side of the 18 yard box to Carreiro, who then crossed it over to
Sebastian Burich and he put the ball into the back of the net, making it 4-0.
Before the half closed out, BenU-Springfield (0-6-2; 0-4 AMC) got on the scoreboard, as Pedro Parra cut the deficit down to three goals scoring his second on the year. Parra's goal for the Bulldogs, broke a four game drought where the team had been shutout and outscored 23-0.
The Owls controlled the second half and extended its lead back up to four goals, as Carreiro added his second of the game in the 54
th minute, to make it 5-1 Owls. Parra scored his second of the game for the Bulldogs at the 62
nd minute, but the deficit proved to be too much as
Jacob Hawes scored his first goal on the season with a penalty kick at the 80:23 mark, to make it a final 6-2.
The team outshot the Bulldogs 24-11 in the game, including holding BenU-Springfield to just three shots in the second half.
Carreiro is the second Owls player to tie the school record with most assists in a game (3), as Parra totaled three assists earlier this season against Culver-Stockton College.
The Owls will be back in action on Wednesday October 2
nd against no. 13 ranked Hannibal-LaGrange. Kick-off will start at 7:00 p.m.
