BELLEVILLE, Ill— The William Woods University men's soccer team suffered a tough American Midwest Conference (AMC) loss Saturday afternoon, as they fell to No. 21-ranked Lindenwood University-Belleville, 3-1.

The Owls (10-4-2; 5-3-1 AMC) saw action right out of the gate in the first frame, with Lindenwood-Belleville (13-1; 8-0 AMC) recording 13 shot attempts while the Owls only totaled two.

The two first Lynx shot attempts came within the fifth minute from John Sundberg and Cesar Acosta, but both shots were saved by freshman
Conor Cable. William Woods executed with their first chance to score, with
Jesse Jordan scoring the Owls only goal of the night off a header, as
Jacob Hawes came up with the assist.

The Lynx answered back, with Acosta attempting a shot in the 21st minute, where he saw his shot blocked by
Jesse Bowers, but then just two minutes later, the Lynx found the back of the net, as Leonardo Ferri scored off an assist from Enrique Garcia to tie the game up at 1-1.

Five more shot attempts from the feet of Ferri, Garcia, Hugo Maccioni and Juan Santamaria prompted the Owls to work as a unit defensively and keep the score even at 1-1 going into the half.

In the second frame, the Owls continued to push the Lynx, with a shot attempt and miss out of the gate in the 47
th minute by
Joe Lewis. The Lynx responded in the 48
th minute, as Acosta made it 2-1, as he scored his ninth goal on the year, off an assist from Ferri.

William Woods continued to create chances for themselves, however, the Owls were unable to convert those opportunities into shots, as they were limited to just two shots in the final frame.

In the 88
th minute, the Lynx put the game away, as a shot from Acosta was saved by Cable, but Johan Sundberg followed up on the loose ball and scored off the rebound, to make it a final, 3-1.

Offensively, the Owls totaled four shots in the game, with Jordan,
Sebastian Burich, Lewis and
Julian Wells, each having a shot. In net, Cable came up big for William Woods, totaling eight saves in 90:00 minutes of play.

The Lynx, meanwhile, were totaled 21 shots and were led by Acosta, having six shots, one goal and one assist. Ferri added five shots, one goal and one assist, while Sundberg totaled three shots and one goal. Â

The Owls will now turn their focus onto Freed-Hardman University, as the Owls travel to Henderson, Tennessee for its AMC finale. Kick-off is set for Thursday, October 30
th at 7 p.m.
