BELLEVILLE, Ill. – The William Woods University women's soccer team tied the program record for most American Midwest Conference (AMC) wins in a single-season (seven) on Saturday afternoon, as they defeated Lindenwood University-Belleville, 2-1.
In the first meeting between the teams, the Owls (8-6-2; 7-1-2 AMC) were outshot 11-9, however, the team made two of those shots count and displayed strong defense, securing a key road victory.

Haley Pipes crossed a ball into the box, connecting with teammate
Rachel Meyer, who found the back of the net, giving WWU the 1-0 lead
As the first half came to an end, the score remained the same and the Owls went into half with a one goal advantage, despite being outshot 6-3.
In the final frame, WWU offense would put more pressure on LU-Belleville, outshooting the Lynx 6-5.
In the 63
rd minute, Meyer, who has been on a hot streak offensively, got a pass from fellow senior teammate,
Jamie Palermo, scoring her second goal of the day and extending the Owls lead 2-0. Â
In the closing minutes of the game, a foul on WWU would set up a 19 yard free kick for Lindenwood University, as the Lynxs would get on the board, making the score 2-1, however, the Owls would hold on to their one goal advantage, giving the team its fifth consecutive conference win.
The Owls were led by Meyer, who had a two goal performance, as she collected her seventh and eighth goals of the season. The Granite City, Illinois native, has scored four goals in the last three games for the Owls.
In the net, goalkeeper,
Brittany Griffin held the Lynxs 82:00 full minutes scoreless, the sophomore allowed just one goal, while collecting eight saves on the day.
The Owls return to action Sunday afternoon, as the team hosts Johnson Wales University in honoring the seniors of the 2014 season. Kick-off is set for 2:00 p.m.
