Women's Soccer Seniors Lead The Way To A 6-0 Victory Over Johnson & Wales

FULTON, Mo.— The William Woods University women's soccer team displayed a dominating performance in its final regular season home game today, as the Owls defeated Johnson & Wales University, 6-0 on Senior Day.

The Owls (9-6-2; 7-1-2 AMC), controlled the pace of the game from start-to-finish against the Wildcats (5-11), as they outshot JWU 22-9, while four different players were able to find the back of the net.

The scoring got started for WWU in the seventh minute, as junior Jordan McNamara received a pass at the top of the 18 yard box, and the Blue Springs, Missouri, native, was able to pass the ball through the Wildcat defense, finding a cutting Brittainy German on the far post.

She was then able to cross the ball back on over to the middle to senior Jamie Palermo and she buried her third goal on the year, to give WWU a 1-0 lead.

At the 15:00 minute mark, senior Rachel Meyer dribbled down the left side of the field and after getting away from a Wildcat defender, she lifted the ball towards the middle of the box, where German was able to head in her sixth goal on the season, which extended the teams' lead out to 2-0.

The Owls continued to keep the ball on JWU's side of the field and it paid off yet again, as in the 23rd minute, Amy Faus placed a perfect ball into the box, right onto the head of Sarah Krispin and she was able to flick the ball past Wildcat goaltender Rayanna Gossett, to give William Woods a 3-0 advantage.

The team would tally its fourth goal of the half in the 29th minute, as a corner kick from Mackenzie Cork, found the foot of Ashley Deckard, who took a shot that was saved by Gossett, but the Wildcat goalie couldn't come up with a clean save and Meyer was at the right place at the right time, as she kicked in her ninth goal on the year, giving her five in the last four games.

In the first half, the Owls outshot the Wildcats 13-3, as Gossett came up with three saves for JWU, while Brittany Griffin collected two for William Woods.

In the second half, the team would push its lead out to 5-0, in the 69th minute, as Meyer passed the ball up and over the Wildcat defense, where Krispin was able to use her speed, dribble past the Wildcat goaltender Breggie Coffey and score her second goal of the day.

William Woods would then score its sixth and final goal at the 73:26 mark, as Krispin put a cross on over into the box, where German was able to put the Wildcat defender to the ball and also tally her second goal of the day, to make it a six goal victory for WWU.

McNamara led the team in the shot department (four), while Meyer, German and Palermo each tallied three. In net, the duo of Griffin and Ashely Parisi combined for five saves in the shutout win.

At the conclusion of the game, the Owls honored its eight seniors, Ashley Deckard, Amy Faus, Brittainy German, Casey Kesselheim, Sarah Krispin, Rachel Meyer, Jamie Palermo, Danielle Wilson and manager Hayley Bowler.

With its win on Sunday, the team has now won six out of its last seven and will play its final American Midwest Conference game of the season on October 30th, as they pay a visit to Freed-Hardeman University. Kick-off will start at 5 p.m.
