Women's Soccer Ties Lyon College In Its AMC Opener

Box Score BATESVILLE, Ark. – Despite outshooting Lyon College 17-7 in its first American Midwest Conference (AMC) game, the William Woods University women's soccer team tied the Scots 1-1 (2OT), after 110:00 minutes of play.
 
The WWU offense was off to a fast start Saturday afternoon, as senior Rachel Meyer connected with teammate Brittainy German at the 4:01 mark, giving the Owls an early 1-0 lead.
 
Registering shots in the first half for the Owls included, Jordan McNamara, Jamie Palermo, Haley Pipes, Brittainy German and Sarah Krispin.
 
Going into the final frame with a 1-0 advantage, the Owls sustained the offensive pressure, outshooting the Scots 8-5, however, the team couldn't poke another goal past the Scots goaltender.
 
After the Owls led 1-0 for most of the match-up, the Scots leading scorer, Annie Waldman scored the equalizing goal at the 83rd mark from teammate Monica Ayala, tying the game up at 1-1.  
 
At the end of regulation, with the score all tied at 1-1, it was off to overtime in Batesville, Arkansas. The Owls would continue the offensive pressure, as the team recorded three shots, but the game remained tied, so more extra time was needed in double overtime.

In the second OT, the Owls had a one shot advantage, but despite the effort, the team couldn't score the game winner and the game ended in a 1-1 tie.
 
McNamara led the Owls with five shots, Palermo contributed with four, while Krispin totaled three and the single Owls goal. In the net, Brittany Griffin allowed one goal and made one save.
 
"It was a hard task to play a quality team like Lyon, especially with their home environment and travel required to get here," said head coach Randy Hall.
 
Hall added, "The team showed great determination and fight today. I am very disappointed to come away with a tie, as I felt the team did what it took to deserve to win."
 
The Owls will return to action on September 17th, as they host Park University. Kick-off is set for 5 p.m. at Firley Field.
