Men's Soccer Earns An Impressive 3-1 Victory Over (RV) Park University On Wednesday Night

FULTON, Mo.—The William Woods University men's soccer team pulled off an impressive win on Wednesday night in front of the home crowd, as the Owls defeated (RV) Park University, 3-1.

In a matchup of arguably the two best teams in the American Midwest Conference (AMC), WWU and Park did not disappoint the fans all evening, as a there were plenty of offensive scoring chances and fast paced play.

In the 22nd minute, a foul was called on a Park (4-1; 0-1 AMC) University player, inside the penalty box, which awarded a penalty kick to William Woods (6-1-1; 1-1 AMC).

Senior Alan Matthew, who already had scored twice on the year from the penalty dot, buried his career-high third goal on the season into the back of the net, giving WWU the early 1-0 lead.

The Pirates, however, answered with a goal of their own in the 37th minute, as a pass from the right side of the 18 yard box from Tim Kloster, found the foot of a cutting Cyril Gadu, who tipped the ball past Owls goaltender Conor Cable, tying the game up at 1-1.

It didn't take for the for the Owls to regain the momentum, as off a set piece, senior Paulo Conelian tallied his team leading seventh assist on the year, as his chip shot into the box, found the head of Alex Severino, who flicked the ball past Park goalie, giving the junior a team-high five goals and WWU a 2-1 lead heading into the break.

After being outshot 11-8 in the first 45:00 minutes of play, the Pirates outshot the Owls 10-4 in the second half, but despite the effort, Park was unable to score the equalizer, as the William Woods defense and Cable stood tall.

In the 79th minute, WWU put the game away, as a pass from Matheus Schmid, found the foot of Lendell Louis-Jacques, who was able to beat the Pirate goaltender on the inside post and give the Owls a two-goal victory.

The Owls totaled 15 shots in the game, with Jesse Jordan and Luca Stroeter each having three, while Severino and Sebastian Burich contributed two. Cable had another impressive outing in goal, making five saves, giving the freshman 32 on the year.

Park finished the night with 18 shots and Lucas Sousa was busy on the offensive end, totaling a game-high five, while Kloster added three and Mario Erpel and George Kennedy earned two shots.

The Owls will now have a 10-day break, before getting back on the field on September 27th at Williams Baptist College. Kick-off is set to start at 1:00 p.m.
