FULTON, Mo. - The William Woods University women's soccer team draw a 1-1 (2OT) tie to American Midwest Conference (AMC) leader Missouri Baptist University on Tuesday night.
The Owls (3-4-2; 2-0-2 AMC) still stay perfect in AMC play as they fought a hard battle at Firley Field, Tuesday night.
WWU got on the board first, as
Brittainy German laced the ball into the left corner of the goal, scoring her fourth goal of the year from teammate
Rachel Meyer at the 8:19 mark, giving the Owls the early 1-0 lead.
The Spartans would hold WWU scoreless the rest of the half, despite being outshot seven to three and the Owls would go into the final frame with a one goal advantage.
Coming out of the second half, the score would remain the same until the 61
st minute, when Missouri Baptist's forward, Lauren Guerrero connected with teammate Mary Lee, scoring the equalizing goal and tying the game up at 1-1.
At the end of regulation, with the score all tied 1-1, it was off to overtime. The Owls would put the pressure on the Spartans, as the team outshot MBU 3-1 but despite the effort the team couldn't find the back of the net, so more extra time was needed in double overtime.
In the second OT, which was not the first time that 20:00 extra minutes were needed for the Owls this season, the team was outshot 4-0 and couldn't secure the game winning goal, as the AMC match-up concluded in a 1-1 (2OT) tie.
German, a St. Peters, Missouri native, lead the Owls offensively, as she recorded three shots and the only goal on the night, while
Jordan McNamara and
Sarah Krispin both added three shots a piece in the match-up.
Brittany Griffin gave WWU a solid performance in the goal, as the sophomore collected six shots on the night and did not allow a goal in both overtimes to preserve the tie.
"The girls put in a night's work against a very talented and physical Missouri Baptist squad," said head coach
Randy Hall. "MBU challenged us in a lot of ways tonight and I believe those in attendance had to be entertained by the high paced attacking styles that both teams displayed."
The Owls will now head on the road, as they travel to AMC foe Hannibal-LaGrange University on Saturday afternoon. Kick-off for the match-up is set for 3:30 p.m.
