Men's Soccer Battles To A 0-0 Tie Against Freed-Hardeman University

FULTON, Mo. – In yet another physical battle, the William Woods University men's soccer team couldn't find the winning goal, as the team drew a 0-0 (2OT) tie against Freed-Hardeman University on Saturday afternoon.

Right from the beginning, the Owls(7-4-2, 3-2-2 AMC) had its chances, recording the first three shots of the game, just couldn't land one in the back of the net.

Defensively, both teams kept persistent throughout the first frame, as neither team could find any offensive momentum.

However, with time winding down in the first half, the Lion's had its best opportunity to score, as Alex Meany and Matt Mescher both had good looks at the net but Conor Cable was there to pick up two huge saves.

The score would remain the same and the teams would go into halftime knotted up at 0-0. The Lions edged WWU in the first 45:00 minutes of play with seven shots to six.

In the second half, similar to the first, the Owls controlled the ball on their side of the field but still couldn't find the back of the net.

Then at the 80th minute, Anthony Moscatello thought he had the answer with the game winning goal for the Owls, however, it was taken off the scoreboard, since he was found off sides and we were back at a 0-0 score.

Despite the valiant efforts from both teams', neither one could score the game winning goal and we were off to overtime at Firley Field.

In the first over time, just like the rest of the game, both teams defensively were not giving up, as there were only a combined of three shots in the 10:00 minutes of play.

So another ten minutes of play was needed and there was not a different outcome in the final over time, ending the AMC match-up with a scoreless 0-0 game.

William Woods were led by Alex Severino in the shot department with a game-high of five on the day, while Brett Hodges and Jesse Bowers each contributed two shots, while Cable recorded five saves in the net.

The Owls return to action on Tuesday , as the team will host Hannibal-LaGrange University at 7:00 p.m.
