McNamara Records A Hat-Trick And Scanlan Adds Four Assists In Win Over The Stars

COLUMBIA, Mo.—The William Woods University women's soccer team continued its winning ways on Friday night, as the Owls won its sixth consecutive game, defeating Stephens College, 6-0.

The Owls (9-6-2; 7-3-1 AMC), dominated the Stars (6-9-1; 1-8-1 AMC), from start-to-finish, as they outshot Stephens College 30-5, while Jordan McNamara led the way, as she recorded her third collegiate hat-trick. Shelby Scanlan also had another dominant game, as she assisted on four of the teams' six goals.

The scoring got started just three minutes into the game, as the duo of Halle Schoreder and McNamara connected early. Schroeder was able to cross the ball into the middle of the 18 yard box for McNamara and the Blue Springs, Missouri, native, was able to net her first goal on the night, into the lower left corner of the goal net, to make it a 1-0 game.

The offensive pressure continued for WWU, as they outshot the Stars 5-0, before scoring its next goal in the 17th minute. This time around, it was Scanlan crossing the ball into the box, which found the head of McNamara, who was able to score her second of the game, making it a 2-0 outing.

The Owls went on to have a shot advantage of 4-1 before the half concluded, while the Stars lone scoring chance came in the 22nd minute, on a shot from Martha Noelker, but WWU starting goalie, Rebecca Sturgess, came up with the save.

In the second half, the goals continued to add up for WWU, as in the 54th minute, Jaclyn Zilch found the lower right corner of the net, her third on the year, to make it 3-0, in favor of the Owls. In the 67th minute, Leah Bonugli, earned her first collegiate assist, as she passed the ball onto Renee Meyer, who blasted a shot into the top left corner of the goal, making it 4-0 on the scoreboard.

After more continued offensive pressure, Scanlan and McNamara found each other again in the 77th minute, as Scanlan passed the ball ahead for McNamara from midfield, who headed the ball into the top shelf, scoring her third goal of the game and making it 5-0 WWU.

Schroeder, meanwhile, who entered the game scoring a goal in the last three games, made it four in a row on Friday, as she netted her sixth on the year in the 82nd minute, off assists from Elyssa Cappaert and Scanlan, to make it a final 6-0 victory for WWU.

McNamara and Schroeder each had seven shots on the night, while to go along with her four assists, Scanlan contributed five shots. In net, the duo of Sturgess and Ashley Parisi combined for the shutout, as they made two saves total.

With the win, the Owls now have 22 points in the American Midwest Conference (AMC) standings and are currently tied for third with Lyon College. The team is only two points out of second place, which belongs to Park University.

WWU will look to close out the regular season on a very impressive note, as they search for its seventh win on October 27th, when the team hosts Central Baptist College. Kick-off will start at 5 p.m.
