FULTON, Mo. - The William Woods University men's soccer team gets back over the .500 hump in American Midwest Conference play, as the team recorded its third shut out of the year with a 3-0 win over Harris-Stowe State University.
The Owls (7-4-1; 3-2-1 AMC), controlled both sides on the ball on Tuesday afternoon, amassing 22 shots on the day, while its defense held the Hornets to a clean sheet and just seven shots in 90:00 minutes of play.
WWU came right out of the gate with the momentum, collecting the first seven shots on the game and it wasn't long after, the Owls found the back of the net for the first points on the day. Senior
Anthony Moscatello recorded his first assist on the year, as he connected with
Jesse Bowers in the 26
th minute, who laced his shot past the HSSU goal keeper, to give the team 1-0 lead.
At the 33
rd minute the Hornets attempted to tie the game up, as Dillen Myers took a shot but was saved by
Conor Cable and the score would remain the same. As the horn would sound for halftime, the Owls would close the first 45:00 minutes outshooting HSSU 14-4, while having the 1-0 advantage.
In the second half, the Owls didn't back down, within the first five minutes of the second frame, Moscatello added a goal to his stat sheet on the day, as the senior buried his fifth goal on the year, to give WWU the 2-0 lead.
Then at the 73:17 mark, the Owls would extended its lead to 3-0, as
Jesse Jordan collected his first goal on the year and that would seal the deal for the Owls, going on to secure the 3-0 AMC win against the Hornets.
Moscatello had a strong outing for William Woods, recording a goal and assist, while totaling three shots.
Alex Severino led the team with five shots, as Cable tallied two saves in his third shutout on the year.
The Owls return to action this Saturday, as the team hosts Freed-Hardeman University for a 3:00 kick-off at Firley Field.
