MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Â After a three-day season opening road trip, The William Woods University baseball team split with Division II Christian Brothers University on Sunday afternoon to win the three-game series against the Bucs.

After game two of the double-header against CBU yesterday was suspended in the seventh inning due to darkness. The game was resumed this afternoon, as the Owls(3-1) had accumulated a dominating 9-0 lead over the Bucs. The team was able to come out, record three-outs in the bottom of the seventh and go on to collect the 9-0 shutout in game two against CBU.

Shortstop,
Stephen Kohler had an impressive display, as he went 3-for-4 from the plate, drove in two RBI's, scored two runs and nabbed a stolen base on the day.
Cody Stewart also had a strong outing, going 3-for-5 while also knocking in two RBI's.
Javier Ledesma collected a pair of hits in the victory, as the senior went 2-for-4 in the game and
Larry Price went 1-for-3 with a team-high three RBI's.

Jacob Guilianelli got the start on the mound for WWU, as the junior faced 13 CBU batters in 3.1 innings pitched, recorded four strike outs and only gave up four hits, while
Dylan Hastings would come in relief, facing five batters, strinking out two and not not walking a single Buc, as the senior collected his first win on the year.

In the third and final game against CBU, the Owls jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in its first at-bat, after a Kohler lead off single would get the Owls rolling,
Jordan Dey would then get Kohler across the plate, putting the first run on the board for WWU.

CBU, however created a rally of their own, as the Bucs were able to push two runs across in the bottom of the third, taking the lead and making it a 2-1 ball game.

After scoring in the first inning, the Owls couldn't scratch another run and was shutout in the contests last eight innings, while the Bucs were able to add another run in the bottom of the seventh inning, after a two out Myles Holliman single thru the right side. The Holliman's RBI extended the Bucs lead to 3-1.

The Owls weren't going down without a fight, in the top of the ninth
Konrad Kemper tried to give WWU the spark they needed by singling to center field, then Ledesma beat out a bunt to advance Kemper to second. Despite, the valiant effort Kohler lined into a double play to end the late rally for the Owls and gave CBU the 3-1 victory.

Offensively in the final match-up against the Bucs, there were several Owls to collect a hit, which included Kohler, Price, Dey, Kemper, Ledesma,
Nick Spagnola,
Austin Clapp, and
Alex St. Pierre, while Dey recorded the lone RBI in the game.

In the three game series that the Owls took 2-1 over the Bucs, Kohler went 4-for-9 from the plate, with two RBI's and scoring two runs, while Ledesma hit .500 percent (3-for-6) against the Bucs.

The Owls will return to action this Friday, February 13
th, in a match-up against Benedictine College, as the team participates in the Joplin Tournament. The first pitch is set for 6:00 p.m.
