Story written by Sports Information Intern Scott BarkerFULTON, Mo.-- The (RV) William Woods University softball team (11-10; 4-0 AMC) extended their season high winning streak to six games after a pair of wins over the Hannibal-LaGrange UniversityTrojans (6-12; 0-2 AMC) on Friday afternoon at Backer Sports Complex. The Owls won game one 8-0 (5 innings) and game two 7-1.

William Woods University 8 Hannibal-LaGrange University 0 (5 inning) WWU got off to another fast start as
Hannah Campbell and Syndae Hatton walked to start the bottom of the first, followed by a two-run double by
Kacey Scharnhorst, to give the Owls the early 2-0 lead.

Scharnhorst would get things going again offensively for William Woods as she led off the bottom of the third with a double to deep left-center. She then advanced to third on a sacrifice fly by
Emily Murphy and later scored as
Caroline Sicht reached base on an error by the Trojans defense to make the score 3-0 in favor of WWU.

William Woods would score three more runs in the bottom of the fourth as
Sam Parsons reached on a one out single and then moved up to second on the walk to Campbell. Pinch hitter,
Beth Begemann then lined a two-run double to the left field corner. Hatton, pinch running, would score on a Scharnhorst triple to give the owls the 6-0 advantage.

The Owls offense would continue to stay hot as
Shelby LeCuru singled after a leadoff walk to
Brailee Schulte. After a strikeout to
Hillary Hentges, Parsons hit an infield single to load the bases for pinch hitter
Julie Scheer who lined the first pitch into centerfield, scoring Schulte and LeCuru, for a walk-off single giving William Woods the 8-0 (5 inning) victory.

Allison Waskow earned her fifth victory on the season after pitching 5.0 innings, giving up three hits, striking out three, and walking just three Trojan batters.

Bobbie Henderson got the loss for HLG, pitching 4.1 innings, giving up eight runs (seven earned), on nine hits, walking five, and striking out three.

William Woods University 7 Hannibal-LaGrange University 1Game two, saw the Owls jump out to an early lead again, as Campbell reached first on a bunt single and then advanced to second on a single by Hatton. After a Scharnhorst ground out with runners at second and third for WWU,
Emily Murphy hit a sacrifice fly to left field scoring Campbell to give William Woods the 1-0 lead after one inning of play.

The bottom of the second saw the Owls add to their lead after Schulte singled followed by a two-run homerun by LeCuru over the left field fence extending the lead to 3-0 in favor of William Woods.

Hatton led off the bottom of the third with a double to left-center, followed by a RBI double by Scharnhorst to give the Owls the 4-0 lead. After advancing to third on a groundout by Murphy, Scharnhorst would score on a double by Sicht, making the score 5-0 for WWU. Â

The Trojans would get their first run of the afternoon in the top of the fifth, as Haley Zeier hit a leadoff single. Courtney Neff, pinch running, would advance to second on a sacrifice bunt by Hannah Trump, while Kayla Meier would then single home Neff to make the score 5-1, William Woods still with the lead.

Two errors to start the bottom half of the sixth had
Alexi Cavins on third and
Macy Wierschem on first. Begemann, pinch-hitting for William Woods, laced a double to deep left-center, scoring both Cavins and Wierschem to make the score 7-1 WWU.

After going a quick one, two, three in the top of the seventh, the Owls went on to secure the 7-1 victory, to pick up its fourth straight AMC win on the season.

Bre Logan picked up her fourth win on the season pitching 7.0 innings, giving up two hits, giving up one earned run, walking one, and striking out 11.

Bobbie Henderson got her second loss of the afternoon, pitching 6.0 innings, giving up seven runs (five earned), nine hits, and recorded one strikeout.

The Owls will return to action on Sunday, March 22
nd, as they will play a doubleheader against Embry-Riddle University in Florida.
