ST. LOUIS, Mo.—The William Woods University softball team picked up two big American Midwest Conference (AMC) wins on Tuesday afternoon, as the Owls defeated Missouri Baptist University, 6-5 in game one and 7-2 in game two.
William Woods University 6 Missouri Baptist University 5In game one, the Owls (25-22; 14-8 AMC), jumped out to a 1-0 lead, as leading RBI getter,
Kacey Scharnhorst, tallied another one on the year, as she singled through the hole at short, scoring leadoff hitter
Hannah Campbell, who reached base to start the game with a single to left.

In the bottom of the first, however, the Spartans (22-14; 13-9 AMC), answered right back, as after a groundout, Corey Pitchford reached first base on a WWU error. Payton Anderson then came to the dish and smashed the 2-2 offering from Owls starter
Allison Waskow, over the right-center field wall, to give MBU a 2-1 lead.

In the bottom of the third, the Spartans struck again, as Alexis Gray hit a two run homer of her own, this time over the left-center field wall, to extend the teams' lead out to 4-1. An Andrea Chessor RBI single to right-center in the bottom of the fifth, pushed MBU's lead out to 5-1.

That score remained the same until the top of the seventh, when the Owls offense took over the game, as they scored five runs on five hits.

Pinch-hitter
Emily Murphy, got things started with a single to left and she was able to move up a base, after
Sam Parsons singled to left.
Hannah Campbell then reached base on an error, which loaded up the bases for
Sydnae Hatton.
Â
Hatton, came through, as she singled to shallow left, scoring Murphy and cutting the lead down to 5-2. Jena Trombley came on in relief of Chessor, but she was unable to slow down hot-hitting Scharnhorst, as she hit a double, scoring Parsons and Campbell, to put the scoreboard at 5-4.

Beth Begemann reached on an intentional walk, to load up the bases again. Trombley got the next Owls batter to strikeout, but couldn't retire
Caroline Sicht, as the senior singled to right, scoring Hatton and Scharnhorst, which gave the team a 6-5 lead.

In the bottom of the seventh, Waskow allowed a two out base hit to Anderson, but pinch-runner, Jennifer Sparks, was caught stealing and that ended the game and gave WWU a thrilling one run victory.

Offensively, WWU totaled eight hits, and were led by Scharnhorst, as the St. Peters, Missouri, native, went 2-for-4, with one run scored and three RBI. Parsons went 2-for-3 with one run scored, while Campbell, Hatton, Sicht and Murphy added the other hits.

Inside the circle, Waskow picked up her 10
th win, as she went the distance, allowing five runs (four earned) on six hits and struck out seven Spartans.

MBU, was led by Anderson, as she went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI. Alexis Gray went 1-for-3 at the plate, but added two RBI as well.

William Woods University 7 Missouri Baptist University 2 In game two, it was the Spartans taking the lead in the bottom of the third, as Kara Pochon, singled to right-center, scoring Darrian Chrzanoski, to give MBU a 1-0 advantage.

That lead, however, was very short-lived, as in the top of the fourth, the Owls scored six runs on five hits and were helped out by two Spartan defensive errors.

Shelby LeCuru was able to tie the game at 1-1, after she singled to center, scoring Begemann, who hit a one out single earlier in the inning.
Macy Wierschem then doubled to center, scoring Schulte and LeCuru, to extend the lead to 3-1. Parsons replaced Wierschem at second, hitting a double to left-center, to make it a 4-1 Owls lead.

Parsons was then able to score the fifth run in the inning on a Spartan error and Hatton capped the inning off with a bunt base hit, as she scored Campbell, to give the team plenty of breathing room at 6-1. The Owls added another run in the top of the fifth, on another MBU defensive error, to make it 7-1.

The Spartans tallied a run in the bottom of the seventh, but starter
Bre Logan was able to end any type of comeback, as she got the final two batters on a strikeout and groundout, to secure the five run win for WWU.

The Owls scattered nine hits in the game and were led by Begemann, as she went 3-for-3 with two runs scored. Wierschem had a strong game, going 2-for-4 with one run scored and two RBI, while Campbell, Hatton, LeCuru and Parsons added one hit and one RBI each.

Logan, meanwhile, was able to pick up the win, as she went 7.0 innings, allowing just two runs on seven hits and struck out three.

With the wins, the team extends its winning streak to five games and they were able to move up to the No. 6 spot in the AMC standings.

The team will look to continue its winning ways on Thursday afternoon, as the Owls will play its final regular season games on the year at St. Louis College of Pharmacy. First-pitch will be thrown at 2 p.m.
