Women's Soccer Looks For An Upset Win Against No. 6-Ranked Benedictine College

McNamara looks to find the back of the net for the first time this season against the Ravens.
ATCHISON, Kan.—After getting its season underway on Friday night, the William Woods University women's soccer team returns to the pitch on Sunday evening, as the Owls go toe-to-toe with No. 6-ranked Benedictine College. Kick-off will start at 5 p.m.

The Owls (0-1), are coming off a tough 2-0 defeat against No. 23-ranked Missouri Valley College in front of the home crowd. The Vikings (2-0-1), were able to score the game winner in the 12th minute, as Riley Kerr tapped the ball into the back of the net, after a tremendous save from WWU goaltender Ashley Parisi, but the ball landed right by Kerr and she was able to give them a 1-0 advantage.

MVC, went on to add another goal in the 31st minute, as Inma Martinez buried her shot into the back of the net. The Owls had its chances, including Jordan McNamara hitting the post in the 69th minute, but goaltender Irene Sanchez and the Vikings defense were able to secure the shutout.

The Owls totaled eight shots in the outing, led by McNamara with two, while Parisi was impressive in net, making a career-high 11 saves.

This will be the second consecutive meeting between the Owls and Ravens (2-0), as last season, Benedictine defeated WWU, 5-2. In that game, William Woods grabbed a 1-0 lead at the 2:19 mark of the first half, on a goal from Sarah Krispin.

The Ravens, however, scored five unanswered goals, before McNamara tallied a goal of her own in the 57th minute, to make it a three-goal victory for Benedictine.

This season, the Ravens gained an impressive 2-1 (OT) win over No. 8-ranked Spring Arbor in its season opener and followed that up with a 4-1 victory over Ottawa (Kan.).

On the year, Benedictine has outscored its opponents 6-2 and hold a shot advantage of 30-16. Kara Hines, Jordan Francescon, Ashley Chandler, Rosie McShane, Liz Enna and Hannah Trandahl, have all scored one goal each thus far.

In net, Ellen Loughman is off to a 2-0 start, as she has made three saves in 162:58 minutes played, while allowing two goals.
