Women's Soccer Hits The Road For An AMC Showdown Against Park University

Parisi has made 35 saves so far in four games, placing her in the top 30 in the NAIA.
PARKVILLE, Mo.— The William Woods University women's soccer team will look for its second win in a row and its first American Midwest Conference (AMC) victory on Saturday, as they pay a visit to Park University. Kick-off will start at 12 p.m.

The Owls (1-2-1), are coming off its first win on the 2015 season, as they defeated Central Methodist University, 1-0, in its last time out.

The game was tied up at 0-0, until with 11:00 minutes remaining, as Brooke Hendrix received the ball from the WWU defense and kicked it towards the 18 yard box. Freshman Shelby Scanlan used her speed to get past the Eagles defense, tip the ball around the goaltender and score her first collegiate goal into the far left corner of the net, giving WWU a 1-0 lead.

From there, the Eagles offense, which totaled 18 shots in the outing, picked up its offensive pressure, but like they had throughout the night, the WWU defense, along with goalie Ashley Parisi, stood tall and made key saves when needed, which secured the team with a 1-0 victory.

The Owls totaled six shots in the game, two of which came from Elyssa Cappaert and Scanlan, while Parisi had another strong game in net, making seven saves.

On the season, the Owls have scored two goals and tallied 31 shots through four games of action. With her goal, Scanlan, joined senior Jordan McNamara on the stat sheet, as the Blue Springs, Missouri, native, scored her first goal on the year against Avila.

In net, Parisi, the reigning AMC Defensive Player of the Week, has accumulated 35 saves, which places her in the top 30 overall in the NAIA.

Last season, when these two teams' went toe-to-toe at Firley Field, the Owls came away with a 3-1 victory, getting one goal in the first half from McNamara and two more in the second from Rachel Meyer.

This year, after winning its first two games, the Pirates (2-2), have dropped its last two outings, falling to No. 6-ranked Benedictine College 5-1 and (RV) Baker University 6-3.

The Pirates, have found the back of the net nine times this season, and are led by Gabi Severns four goals and two assists, totaling 10 points. Emily Key has added three goals and three assists, while Emma Chatterton has tallied two goals of her own.

In goal, Amy Roskell, has played in 360:00 minutes, making 18 saves, but has allowed 13 goals for a goals against average of 3.250.
