Owls Fall On The Road Against Columbia College On Thursday

COLUMBIA, Mo.—The William Woods University women's soccer team dropped a tough one on the road Thursday night, as the Owls fell to Columbia College, 5-0.

The Owls (1-4-1; 0-2 AMC), looked to shock the Cougars (5-1; 2-0 AMC) right out of the gate, as the teams' best scoring chance came off the foot of Jordan McNamara, as she received the ball inside the 18 yard box, but her attempt went off the post and the threat was ended.

The game remained scoreless until the 18:28 mark, as Taylor Hagenhoff passed the ball up inside the box for Tiffany Weaver and she was able to beat WWU goalie Ashley Parisi on the near post and give CC a 1-0 lead.

The offensive pressure from the Cougars offense continued the rest of the half, but the Owls defense, like it has all season, stayed strong, while Parisi was able to make a couple key saves to keep the deficit at 1-0, as the half horn sounded.

The Cougars totaled 11 shots in the half, while WWU added two. In net, Parisi was able to make two saves and Falvia Rosado, meanwhile, made one for CC on a shot from Mackenzie Cork.

In the second half, at the 52:22 mark, a hand ball was called on the WWU defense inside the box, which awarded the Cougars a penalty kick. CC's Katelyn Palmer, was able to bury her shot into the far left corner of the net, making it a 2-0 game.

Then, six minutes and change later, the Cougars added another goal, again from Weaver, to make it a 3-0 outing. Laurie Frew would score in the 65th minute, while Molly Burke tallied a goal in the 76th minute, to make it a final 5-0.

The Owls were outshot 22-2 in the outing, while in goal, Parisi made four saves. Freshman Rebecca Sturgess was also able to gain some time in net, playing 10:10 minutes.

The Cougars were led by Weaver, totaling two goals on two shots. Frew added a game-high six shots and found the back of the net once.

The teams' road-trip continues, as they travel to Bethany, Oklahoma, for a non-conference showdown against Southwestern Christian University on Saturday. Kick-off will start at 2 p.m.
