Men's Soccer Collects Its Third Straight Win On The Season; Louis-Jacques Records Career-High Three Assists

FULTON, Mo. - The William Woods University men's soccer team pushed its win streak to a season-high three games on Wednesday night, as the Owls cruised past Culver-Stockton College 5-2 in dominating fashion.

In front of a home crowd, the Owls (5-3-1; 1-1-1 AMC), didn't disappoint and put on an impressive display. Despite being outshot by Culver-Stockton 21-17, WWU were able to collect five goals in the night cap which tied its season-high and made its third straight game scoring five goals.

Right from kick-off, the Owls took control of the game, with just 4:37 minutes into match-up, Harrison Bray placed a ball from the corner inside the box, where Rodrigo Alves found the back of the net, to give WWU the early 1-0 lead.

However, the Wildcats would respond and make it a new game at the 15:06 mark, from the foot of John Hoemeyer, as Mackenzie Northern connected with him from a cross pass, scoring the equalizing goal for C-SC (1-1).

Later in the half, at the 33:19 mark, Alves netted his second goal of the night but this time from the foot of Lendell Louis-Jacques, extending the Owls lead to 2-0. Then just three minutes later, Louis-Jacques made a move past a Wildcat defender down the left side of the field and crossed the ball to find Anthony Moscatello, who put his shot past a diving Culver-Stockton goalkeeper, making the score 3-0 in the Owls favor.

As the first frame came to an end, offensively WWU had the momentum going into half time with a 3-1 lead over the Wildcats. Alves and Louis-Jacque had a huge first half, as Alves has now recorded a goal in the Owls last three games of the season and Louis-Jacque handed out two assists in the half.

In the second half, the Owls didn't let up and in huge part because of Louis-Jacque, as the sophomore remained hot and recorded his third assist of the night, in the 64th minute the duo of Louis-Jacques and Moscatello delivered again, as Moscatello buried his second goal of the night, pushing WWU advantage up to 4-1.

C-SC tried to get their offensive in rhythm, as a costly foul inside the box on WWU would set up a penalty kick for the Wildcats. Santiago Dirrocco stepped up to take the shot, which was aimed towards the left corner of the net, until Conor Cable drove and made a stellar deflection for the save.

Then with the momentum on the Owls side, who else but Louis-Jacque tallied a goal to his sheet on the night, as the Montreal, Canada native laced a shot from a deep 27 yards out and found the back of the right corner of the net, making the score an impressive 5-1 over the Wildcats.

The Wildcats would strike last, as C-SC found the back of the net for its second goal of the night in the 89th minute. Although, the Owls would close the second frame still on top and  go on to secure the 5-2 victory.

Louis-Jacques ended the night with a career-high three assists and one goal, as Alves and Moscatello each collected two goals on the night, while Alves posted a team-high eight shots on the night. Cable amassed six saves on the night to pick up his third win of the season.

The Owls return back to action on September 30th, as the team returns to its American Midwest Conference part of its schedule, traveling to Missouri Baptist University for a 2:00 p.m. kick-off.
